CD (Item 538376) EMI/Odeon (Brazil), 1980/1998 — Condition: New Copy

Two albums recorded almost twenty years apart – each showing the depth and sophistication of the legendary Nana Caymmi! Mudanca Dos Ventos is from some very formative years in Nana Caymmi's career – a time when she was really putting together her unique blend of sophisticated vocals, jazz-tinged touches, and deep-voiced lyrics – an instantly recognizable sound that really became her true trademark in Brazilian music! The backings feature electric piano over some fuller strings, but still sound lean enough to mostly let Nana's vocals do most of the work in the set – a surprisingly intimate quality that holds together nicely over tracks that include "Misterios", "Fantasia", "Perola", "Meu Bem Querer", "Cancao Da Manha Feliz", and "Essas Tardes Assim". Resposta Ao Tempo is lovely later work from Nana Caymmi – just the sort of record that makes her a perfect heir to her family's strong musical tradition! The arrangements are full, but the feeling is close-up and personal – that sense of intimacy that Nana always brings to her best work – in ways that are never in the too romantic or soppy styles that you might get from less-skilled singers. Best of all, there's a slight rasp to her vocals that really comes through well – cutting through the backings and bringing us even closer together. Titles include "Doralinda", "Cantiga", "Ate O Redentor", "Resposta Ao Tempo", "Meu Sonho", "Longe Dos Olhos", "Ate Pensei",a nd "A Cara Do Espelho".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
