Say No More
CD (Item 600646) Reprise/Big Break (UK), 1971 — Condition: New Copy
The amazing debut album from Linda Lewis – never issued over here in the US, and an even more compelling document of her many charms than other albums from the 70s! The record captures Lewis at her youthful best – working in a very free-thinking blend of soul, folk, and other modes that indicate her strong ties to the London scene at the time – little strands of some of the best music that was bubbling under from the most creative forces of the period, with a vibe that's not unlike some of the unusual hybrids coming out of Island Records! Lewis sings wonderfully throughout – in that sweet-toned voice that's completely unique – and instrumentation is often acoustic, which only underscores the earnest feel of her music even more – at times almost a female equivalent to the sound of Terry Callier over at Cadet – but with more of a London vibe overall. Chris Spedding, Shawn Phillips, and Ian McDonald all play on the record – and titles include "For Mama", "We Can Win", "Funky Kitchen", "Follow The Piper", "Donkey's Years", "Magic In The Music", "Hymn", and "Hampstead Way". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
