An obscure American recording by Japanese vocalist Miyoshi Umeki – recorded under the aegis of Arthur Godfrey, with arrangements by Hugo Peretti! The tracks are a mixture of standards and tunes that have a slightly "eastern" feel – a bit kitsch, perhaps, but it makes for a nice album of vocal tunes with a twist that's slightly different than the usual 50s fare – and a surprising standout in the Mercury Records catalog of the time. Miyoshi sings in Japanese, which is quite a fresh sound amidst these American backings – and titles include "My Baby's Coming Home", "China Nights", "If I Give My Heart To You", "Teach Me Tonight", "I'm In The Mood For Love", and "Slowly Go Out Of Your Mind". Although the Anita Kerr singers were not often the swinginest group in town, this LP has them doing a nice selection of Bacharach material, including "What's New Pussycat?", "Are You There (with Another Girl)", and "Windows of the World". LP, Vinyl record album
