A great little album from Teena Marie – one that's dedicated to the late Minnie Riperton (who'd passed during the previous year), and which is produced by Riperton's husband/collaborator Richard Rudolph. Teena's got more than a few of Minnie's tricks up her sleeve on the best cuts, singing in a smooth sweet soulful style that makes for some of her best vocals on record at the time. Lovely, soulful work from Teena – one of her best! Titles include "Behind The Groove", "Aladdin's Lamp", "Now That I Have You", "Can It Be Love", "Too Many Colors", and "Young Girl In Love". (Includes the lyric sleeve.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Temptations (1981)
Gordy, 1981. Sealed
An excellent lost sleeper by The Temptations! The record was cut in 1981, and all but disappeared when it came out, but it's a stellar effort that has The Temps working in a smooth modern style with great production by Thom Bell. The band is in great form vocally, and the album feels like some ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gordy, 1966. Very Good+
The first volume of greatest hits that Motown compiled from the Temps classic 60s recordings – and a batch of pre-1966 numbers that shows the best early side of the group. There's less of the heavier soul sound of later years – but the group's harmonies are very sweet, and in fine form ... LP, Vinyl record album

25 Miles
Gordy, 1969. Very Good
Socking soul, and a key album in the career of Detroit powerhouse Edwin Starr – one that had him stepping forth with a proud, loud groove all the way through! Starr's work was always a bit harder than the regular Motown bag – no doubts because of his more indie soul roots – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

What It Is
Polydor, 1972. Very Good-
Wild weird stuff from Edwin Birdsong – an artist who's best known for his work with Roy Ayers during the 70s. This effort's got a very similar righteous soul sound to some of Roy's early work for Polygram – with a mix of jazz, soul, funk, and lots of cosmic wisdom – although ... LP, Vinyl record album

Upchurch
Cadet, 1969. Very Good+
An incredible album from one of the greatest talents on the Chicago soul scene of the late 60s – guitarist Phil Upchurch, a player with an amazing sound! Phil could work in worlds that were equal parts soul and psychedelia – making his guitar a perfect accompaniment for the best ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elementary
Columbia, 1976. Very Good+
A funky fusion classic from guitarist Wah Wah Watson – his only album as a leader, despite countless appearances as a sideman on 70s soul, jazz, and pop sessions! The album's got a really wonderful sort of west coast groove – one that takes bits of spacey fusion, bassy funk, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Motown, Late 60s/Mid 70s. Very Good+ 3LP Gatefold
A great set of Stevie's best tracks for Motown! 3 LPs deep, with 40 tracks in all, mostly from the late 60s, with a handful of numbers from the early 70s, including a few goodies that are getting tougher to find on wax. Includes "Hey Love", "Angie Girl", "Yester-Me, ... LP, Vinyl record album
