Monday Prayer To Tunkashila
CD (Item 602484) PJM, 1994 — Condition: New Copy
Way more than you might guess from the unassuming cover – a record that's filled with a great range of creative reed expression – thanks to the rich talents of Chicagoan Pat Mallinger! Mallinger's one of those players who might not catch your eye at first, but who's clearly got a lot going on – a great respect for the generation of creative saxophonists of the 60s – players like Yusef Lateef, Charles Lloyd, and John Coltrane – and the way they could really open things up with their solos. Pat plays tenor, alto, soprano sax, and even some Native American flute – which sounds surprisingly nice – and the set features some early guitar by Jeff Parker, plus Joel Adams on trombone, Cameron Pfiffner on tenor and flute, and Dan Trudell on piano and organ. Titles include "Butternut Street", "Like Kenny", "Queen Anne's Lace", "China Doll", and "April Sings". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
