The famous Swedish baritonist, caught at the height of his youthful powers – playing in a number of different formats, all of them sounding great! Gullin's baritone was very different than that of many players – extremely fluid, and with a soulful feel that wasn't always common amongst the icier Swedish players of the time. Here, he's playing with a quintet of Swedes from 1955 – on tracks that include "Igloo", "Danny's Dream", and "Lars Meets Jeff"; a Swedish octet with Arne Domnerus, recorded in 1956, on tracks that include "Fedja", "Ma", and "Perntz"; and (last but not least!) the Chet Baker Quartet of 1955, with pianist Richard Twardzik, recorded right before his early death. Titles with Chet include "Brash", "Cool Blues", and "I'll Remember April".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
