Killer work from Sly & The Family Stone – hard-grooving, fast-funking, and really setting the scene for countless groups to come! The album's a messed-up funky party, with plenty of short little tracks that have a mix of funk, soul, and rock – perfect for the crossover crowd from whence Sly sprang, and who would become his biggest supporters into the 70s. And almost best of all, there's hardly any hits here – just tight little numbers that are as fresh today as they were back at the end of the 60s – all the kind of righteous funk the group could do better than anybody else! Titles include "Fun", "Plastic Jim", "Dynamite!", "Chicken", "Into My Own Thing", "Life", "Love City", "I'm An Animal", and the seminal "Jane Is A Groupee". (Original yellow label pressing. Cover has a small center split in the top & bottom seams.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Joneses
Epic, 1977. Very Good+
A killer for the Joneses – probably their strongest album all the way through, thanks to some great production and arrangements by Bobby Eli! The album's got the group taking the fragile harmony style of their earlier records, and filtering it through the Philly powerhouse groove to create a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Man, these guys never seem to miss – and always come up with some great little tunes that snap along in a really compelling way! This album might be easy to overlook in favor of the band's bigger classics, but it's a stone winner all the way through – with a number of tunes that groove ... LP, Vinyl record album

King Biscuit Boy
Epic, 1974. Very Good+
An unlikely bit of southern funk! Richard Newell – aka King Biscuit Boy – is a white Canadian blues performer, and not the kind of guy we'd normally rate – but on this album, he's lucky enough to get production from Allen Toussaint, who goes full-out to make this a fine fine ... Arista, 1977. Very Good+
The second album by this legendary 70s funk combo – best known as Herbie Hancock's backing band, but sounding great here on their own. The album's much more of a solid soul effort than the first one – which was great, but felt more like Herbie had stepped out of the studio for a minute ... LP, Vinyl record album

Natural Juices
Ode, 1975. Very Good- Gatefold
A really great album by Eugene McDaniels! This one's not as radical as his Headless Heroes LP – but it's got a jazzy soulful approach that shows that he could still keep it real without going over the top. Oddly, he's billed as Gene McDaniels on the cover, leaving us to wonder if he's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smash, 1966. Very Good+
Possibly the best instrumental album that James Brown cut for Smash! Unlike some of the other albums, this one features a set list that's mostly originals – and a number of tracks have a longer groove than usual, which lets James and the band stretch out instrumentally. Wand, 1975. Very Good- Gatefold
The one and only album cut by this great little group – a seminal force in the pre-disco club years, with a soaring full-on sound that was in the same mode as other groups like BT Express or The Trammps. Includes their classics – like "We're On the Right Track", "Train ... LP, Vinyl record album

A wonderful album from Pleasure – a group who were already great before, but who really seem to hit a great new level with this late 70s classic!
