Eight Atlantic albums, and The Spinners are still going strong – sounding really wonderful here, thanks to Philly backings from the great Thom Bell! The album's not filled with hits, but that's a big part of its charm – as the group still sounds great, with smoother than smooth vocals – and the tunes move nicely between the soaring style the group discovered in Philly, and some of the mellower moments we've grown to like even more in their work over the years. Most players are Sigma Sound regulars, and titles include "I'm Tired Of Giving", "You Got The Love That I Need", "Painted Magic", "Easy Come Easy Go", "Love Is One Step Away", "Back In The Arms Of Love", and "Heaven On Earth".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Kory, 1977. Sealed
Nice collection of The Spinners pre-Atlantic material, originally recorded for Motown in the late 60s. Includes their classic "It's A Shame", which is hard to find on wax in any form, plus other killer cuts like "Oooh Child", "Truly Yours", "We'll Have It ... LP, Vinyl record album

Young, Gifted & Black
Atlantic, 1972. Very Good
A beautiful album that perfectly mixes both sides of Aretha – the earlier hard-hitting soulster, and the developing vocalist with a rich talent for more sophisticated material. The album features the anthemic title cut in Aretha's famous version – plus the sample favorite "Rock ... LP, Vinyl record album

Best Of Carla Thomas
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good
A great collection that features 14 of Carla's early hits for Stax – repackaged and remastered by Atlantic for this end of the 60s collection. The tracks run the gamut from sweet and youthful to harder soul material – and the album features 2 tracks recorded with Otis Redding, "Lov ... LP, Vinyl record album

Leon Ware (1982)
Elektra, 1982. Very Good
Seminal modern soul from the great Leon Ware – an artist who had a great influence on the sound of mellow Motown in the 70s, but who's sounding even better here in an early 80s California groove! Leon's smooth, sophisticated, and very much his own man on the set – unabashedly upfront ... LP, Vinyl record album

Euphrates River
RCA, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
Although the Main Ingredient were best known for their early 70's singles, this album from '74 is a wonderfully complex batch of tunes that shows that the group were taking a cue from some of their hipper contemporaries, and pushing past a stock hit formula. Bert DeCoteaux was still arranging, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

People, 1975. Very Good-
One of the most fantastic albums by the JBs – a masterpiece of funky jamming, tight instrumentation, and that free yet tight style of the James Brown 70s years! The tracks are longer than on some of the earlier singles – especially the 8 minute jammer "(It's Not The Express) It's ... LP, Vinyl record album
