Not as "electro" as you might expect from the title, but a pretty nice little record from Dick! The album has Hyman playing Baldwin electric piano in front of larger orchestrations – running through a suite of tracks that move from jazz to classic to "rock" type rhythms – at the best moments soaring like some hip soundtrack tunes, and at the weaker ones, just sounding like spare jazz solo work. The album features one long piece of music, divided up into many moods and tones. (Cover has some light wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Shock – Music In Hi Fi
ABC, 1958. Very Good
Very cool work from Creed Taylor – material cut when he was still a bandleader, and hadn't yet evolved into the role of super-producer! The session's a long way from the CTI sound of the 70s – and instead has Creed playing some very spooky stuff – compositions by Kenyon Hopkins ... LP, Vinyl record album

Music: A Part Of Me
Capitol, 1966. Very Good
The first album that Man From UNCLE David McCallum cut for Capitol – a batch of instrumental tunes that was really masterminded by arranger HB Barnum and producer David Axelrod! The record features short groovy versions of mid 60s pop tunes, plus a few instrumentals by McCallum, Barnum, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Baroque Beatles Book
Elektra, 1965. Very Good
One of the weirdest Beatle-related projects of the 60s – and one of the most abstract, as well! The album's got kind of an odd concept – in that it purports to be a rediscovery of rare baroque music roots of famous Beatle tunes by Lennon & McCartney – recorded with offbeat ... Herb Alpert's Ninth
A&M, 1967. Very Good+
Wonderfully jaunty and jagged work from trumpeter Herb Alpert – and a session that has him opening up the Tijuana Brass groove a bit more than usual! Quiet Village
Liberty, Late 50s. Very Good+
An undisputed classic in the exotica genre – and the record that yielded Martin Denny his biggest hit! The title track "Quiet Village" was originally written by Les Baxter, but it was Martin Denny's approach that really managed to send the tune over the top – using spare ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ports Of Pleasure
Capitol, 1957. Very Good+
A dreamy exploration of south sea ideals from the great Les Baxter – a set that's got a more lightly drifting quality than some of his more percussive exotica albums, and which is awash in dreamy soundscapes penned by Les himself! The orchestrations are large and bold throughout – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pay It No Mind
Uni, Late 60s. Sealed
Late 60s easy orchestrations from the George Wilson ensemble – arranged by Richard Rome, and kind of a blend of piano-styled numbers (ala Roger Williams) and more strictly orchestral ones. The cover's pretty nice – a beach girl with a lollipop – and the sound has enough hip ... LP, Vinyl record album

Leis Of Jazz
Hi Fi, 1959. Near Mint-
The title's no lie, as the album's a lot jazzier than some of Arthur Lyman's other records – a bit more upbeat, and almost like some vibes-led combo from the LA scene of the 50s! Pianist Alan Soares has a strong role in the set – providing a bit more bite than usual for an Arthur Lyman ... LP, Vinyl record album
