CD (Item 601273) Maype, Late 50s — Condition: New Copy

There's no date on the cover of this one, but the material is right up there with classic Chachao descarga vintage – with a nicely rough blend of jazz and Latin modes, and a fair bit of the mambo rhythms in the titles! In fact, the feel here is almost pre-descarga – still stretching out in a Latin jazz mode, but a bit tighter overall – like some of the best New York Latin jazz sides of the mid 50s, although with the clear addition of tres on many tracks – which underscores the Havana roots of the music! Most tunes are instrumental, with lots of great piano – and titles include "Mambo", "Juan Pescao", "Avance Juvenil", "A La Loma De Belen", "El Manicero", "Descargas General", "Tunas Se Quemo", "La Floresta", and "Tres Lindas Cubanas". The set seems to include some material from Jam Session With Feeling, plus other tracks.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
