Great instrumental grooves from Fajardo – played with a group that's a bit fuller than the usual charanga, but which keeps things lean and tight throughout! Fajardo's flute is at the lead of all tracks – played with a style that's quite sharp, even when sweet – this edge that always seems to mark his best recordings – as if he's just about to overblow the instrument, but knows how to stop at just the right point! Rhythms are mostly midtempo, and have a nice percussive punch at the bottom – and titles include "Almendra", "Dona Olga", "Si Muero En La Carretera", "La Flauta Magica", and "Masacre".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A rare little set from The Meters – recorded in their home turf of New Orleans in the mid 70s, but with a groove that's as raw as their Josie Records albums of the 60s! The vibe here is a great change from the polished production the group were getting over at Warner Brothers – and the ... CD
