Limbo (Japanese paper sleeve edition)
CD (Item 616962) Crown/P-Vine (Japan), Early 60s — Condition: New Copy
Way more than the cheapo fad record you might guess from the title – thanks to some wonderfully soulful tenor from Joe Houston! The setting's almost more Latin than limbo – a mode that really works perfectly with Houston's horn – driving the big-toned sound strongly right up from the bottom – and letting Joe have some nice freedom to stretch out with solos over the top! Given that Houston was already mixing Chicano elements with his R&B groove in the 50s, the approach is a natural – as you'll hear on "Limbo Organ", "Limbo Lou", "Out On A Limbo", "La La Limbo", "Limbo Stick", and "Rockin The Limbo". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
