Unreleased Art Vol 5 – Stuttgart May 25th 1981
CD (Item 519207) Widows Taste, 1981 — Condition: New Copy
Some great work from Art Pepper – recorded quite late in his life, and unreleased until now! The set has Pepper playing live in Stuttgart, with a quartet that includes Milcho Leviev on piano, Bob Magnusson on bass, and Carl Burnett on drums – all very familiar players to Art, making for a date that's got a more cohesive feel that some European sessions that might only have a visiting hornman working with a local rhythm section. Tunes are all quite long – that stretched-out, richly expressive style that Pepper hit beautifully in his revived years of the late 70s – really magical music that's filled with some amazing horn lines that move way past the Art Pepper sound of the early years. Pepper plays mostly alto, but also handles a bit of clarinet – and titles include "Landscape", "True Blues", "Make A List", "Straight Life", "For Freddie", and "Patricia". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
