LP (Item 602742) Andrew's Music, 1975 — Condition: New Copy

Incredible work from one of the unsung geniuses of American jazz – the great saxophonist Andrew White, an amazingly soulful talent with a really deep range of expression! This amazing package documents most of a 12 hour "marathon" played by White in the mid 70s – a concert that ran for 12 hours in length – during which Andrew never fails to amaze – stretching out in these bold, righteous lines that are clearly inspired by Coltrane – yet taken into other directions too – with bits of funk, spiritual, and other strands of jazz folded effortlessly into the mix! The tone is incredible throughout – and the quartet swings hard – thanks to work from the mighty Steve Novosel on bass (who you may know from Lloyd McNeil albums – Lloyd recorded the date, by the way!) – plus Donald Waters on piano and Bernard Sweetney on drums. Titles on this fourth volume include a few recorded during the same week, but not at the concert – "Andy's Alto Sax", "Satellite", "New Blues", and "Theme".
