Piano poetry from Rossano Baldini – a warm solo set, played with a great sense of lyrical feeling! Baldini's got a strong feeling for space between the notes – and manages to make a lot happen with just a little – especially on the ballads, which have a slow, almost cinematic way of unfolding – a style that's gentle, but never sleepy – just really thoughtful in the way the sounds and silences are spaced! There's a few sharper edges at points – some nice angular lines which also show that Rossano's way more than just a solo piano noodler – as do his great compositions, which include "Unknown", "Theme For Jon", "Rubber Wall", "Elegy", and "It Won't Be Late" – nestled here alongside versions of "Naima" and "Monk's Mood". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
