Teena Marie steps out strongly on her own – really knocking it out of the park on this initial album for CBS – entirely written, arranged, and produced by Lady T! The grooves are as funky as before, but possibly have a leaner quality overall – a tighter 80s groove approach to the music, yet always with the fully fleshed-out soul that we love in Teena's handling of the vocals. Basslines are mighty nice –more than enough to hook us in on just about every tune – but the ballads are pretty sweet, too! Titles include "Robbery", "Playboy", "Ask Your Momma", "Dear Lover", "Stop The World", "Midnight Magnet", and "Cassanova Brown". CD features 4 bonus tracks – "Playboy (US 12" rmx)", "Fix It (US 12" rmx)", "Fix It (US 12" rmx inst)", and "Midnight Magic (US 12" inst)".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Heavy funk from Teena Marie – a self-produced killer for mid 80s Epic Records – done with some even bolder grooves than before, in ways that definitely show the hallmarks of the Prince generation! The 80s was a hell of a good time to be a female funk artist on her own – and Teena ... CD

One of our favorite Isaac Hayes albums from the post-Stax years – a wonderful late 70s set that has the man returning strongly to the mellow roots of his early solo years! Ike sounded great on his disco tracks at the time – but we really love his mature, laidback way of laying down a ... CD

Wonderful work from Dionne Warwick's lesser-known sister – a hell of a great singer, and one who packs even more punch than her famous sibling! The gem of a set has all the poise and class of Dionne, but comes across with a lot more soul as well – a great mix that's very much in the ... CD
