CD (Item 606540) Cadence, 2003 — Condition: New Copy
Very open-ended duet work between Cecil Taylor and bassist Dominic Duval – a live performance that's definitely directed strongly by Taylor's unique approach to the piano, but which Duval really seems to match well in most places too! The first half of the set is a continuous improvisation that runs for over an hour in length – very bold, aggressive passages by Taylor, offset by some more sensitive shadings from Duval – who clearly knows how to navigate Cecil's territory, given their previous work together. The second half is a bit more soft spoken – at least in Taylor-like terms – with some shorter tracks that almost get melodic at points, and which feature some especially nice contributions from Duval! Titles include "The Last Dance", "Bridge Works", "Fortuitous Madness", and a solo piano section by Taylor.
