CD (Item 587005) Chess/Hip-O Select, 1950s — Condition: New Copy

They call him Howlin Wolf for a reason – as you'll hear in this killer set of original recordings for Chess Records! As you'd guess by the comprehensive language in the title, the package is way more than just a greatest hits or singles set – as it brings together a massive 97 tracks recorded by Wolf in the 50s – early 78rpm singles, legendary Chicago blues tunes, and a surprising number of alternate takes and unusual versions, plus a few instrumentals too! A number of tracks here were never issued in the US at all – and the 7", book-styled package features full notes on the sessions, great vintage images, label art, and more – a mindblowing compilation that's way more than you'd ever get on some of those low-budget collections. The stuff of legend, and presented in a legendary way, too – one more reason we're still in love with the CD format!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
