The steely cover's an apt one – as New Order have still largely held onto their edge here – those raspy guitars and moodier moments that first marked their early work – all elements that keep things compelling amidst some of the more tuneful moments of the songs! There's definitely a lot more hooks than before, but most tracks are still pretty far from commercial pop – and if anything, showcase the preference for darker sounds that would mark the alt rock underground that was springing up in the US, clearly a generation inspired by New Order's initial experiments. Titles include "All Day Long", "Weirdo", "Paradise", "State Of The Nation", "Angel Dust", "Every Little Counts", and "As It Is When It Was". (Super-heavy pressing – better than the original!)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Incredible stuff – and one of Tim Buckley's greatest albums! The record's got a style that's a wonderful mix of folk and jazz – using acoustic guitar on most tracks, but also throwing in some vibes by a young David Friedman, which gives the record some warm chromatic hues. The fiery debut of the Stooges! It isn't quite the out-there masterpiece that Fun House would be, and it's not quite as aurally blistering as Raw Power (we might be able to blame producer John Cale for this) but it's still one of the most powerful rock records of the era!
