Complete Mal Waldron Quintets On Black Saint & Soul Note (Git Go/Seagulls of Kristiansund/Crowd Scene/Where Are You) (4CD set)
CD (Item 610728) Black Saint (Italy), 1980s/Early 90s — Condition: New Copy
Tremendous work from Mal Waldron – four later albums that have him hitting a whole new level of power! Waldron's always been a compelling artist – from his 50s hardbop work to his 60s modern moments to his rich array of overseas recordings in the 70s. But on these 80s sides for Black Saint/Soul Note, he takes off in a rich new direction – one that's stepped in the sort of spiritual modes that other American players were using in the 70s, touched with some of Waldron's more creative, complex approaches to jazz! The lineup on these records is all great – with stellar reed work from either Sonny Fortune, Ricky Ford, or Charlie Rouse – and trumpet by the great Woody Shaw on two of the dates – plus bass by Reggie Workman, and drums from Eddie Moore and Ed Blackwell. Tracks are very long on most records – lots of hard-burning, stretched-out, all-soul solos that are mighty nice! Includes the full albums The Git Go, Seagulls Of Kristiansund, Crowd Scene, and Where Are You – packed in small LP-styled sleeves. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
