One of a set of legendary recordings done by Ind in the 50s – back at a time when he was the bass player in Lee Konitz group, but also a budding young sound engineer, with a good ear for a jazz session! The tunes feature Mosca and Ind in piano/bass duets – recorded live in New York with a very open and swinging feel. Titles include "Brightwater", "Sal's Line", "Groovin High", "Upwelling", and "Background Music".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Unlike the mellower Breeze from the East LP (another Tjader "eastern" session), this one's got some very lively Latiny stuff – despite the orientalist theme of the LP. There's a monster version of Horace Silver's "Tokyo Blues", plus takes of Lalo Schifrin's "The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Note, Early 60s. Good+
One of the Jimmy Smith "jam session" Blue Notes, with a large group that includes Lee Morgan, Lou Donaldson, George Coleman, Tina Brooks, and Art Blakey – nearly all of whom take long solos and dig deep to compete with each other. 3 long tracks, "The Sermon", "JOS&quo ... LP, Vinyl record album

A really great, oft-overlooked album from the best period of Quincy Jones! This album is quite possibly Quincy's most farthest-reaching – as he works in an array of styles that really shows his growing genius in the studio – not just jazz and soundtrack modes, but more soul-based ones, ... Crazy! Baby
Blue Note, 1960. Good+
One of Jimmy's most classic albums for Blue Note – and a key example of why his solo skills on the organ surpassed most of his contemporaries! The record's got a stripped-down trio group of Jimmy, guitarist Quentin Warren, and drummer Donald Bailey – working through mostly familiar ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mindblowing work from Minnie Riperton – her first solo album, cut at the end of the 60s, after a number of years of work with the group Rotary Connection. The album builds off the now famous sound of Rotary Connection – but takes it to the next level, with arch-baroque production by ... LP, Vinyl record album
