Proof that Teddy Pendergrass was a fantastic solo act – and some of the most godlike work that he ever recorded! The record shows Teddy moving into territory all his own – with wonderfully smooth quiet storm arrangements offsetting the deeply soulful vocals he forged with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. This one's perhaps the ultimate Teddy Pendergrass album of all time – as it features the incredible track "Come Go With Me", which kicks off the album, and which has some of the most sublime backings we've ever heard on a mellow soul cut! Other killers include "Turn Off The Lights", "Life Is A Circle", and "Do Me".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Keep Smilin'
Philadelphia International, 1974. Very Good-
One of Bunny's earliest, and one of his best. Although some of the tracks have an uptempo pre-disco feel, there's none of the excesses of his later albums for Gold Mind. Instead, there's a solid Philly soul groove, and great production by Bunny, with arrangements by Norman Harris and Ronnie Baker. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Unemployment Blues
Philadelphia International, 1976. Very Good+
Nice Philly groove record by this obscure funky band from the 70's. The title cut, "Unemployment Blues", is a brassy funky track with political lyrics, but our favorite cuts on here are the smoother soul cuts, like "Baby I'm Yours" and "Toy Ball", which has a nice ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stylistics
Avco, 1971. Good+
A masterpiece of harmony soul – one of THE all-time greats of the genre, and a lasting treasure from The Stylistics! The album really took vocal soul to a whole new level for the 70s – pushing from the sometimes fragile ballad style of the late 60s into a smoother, more mature sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

Low Rent Rendezvous
Atlantic, 1975. Near Mint-
The second chapter in a mighty 70s trilogy from Ace Spectrum – a killer set recorded for Atlantic Records, and easily some of the best group soul issued by the label in the decade! Ace Spectrum change things up a bit here from the obvious – hitting a variety of modes that move between ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polydor, 1979. Very Good+
An oft-overlooked funky soul gem from the incredible Roy Ayers – taking turns with both uptempo material and more smoothed out soul sounds – all done with Roy's trademark jazzy approach to the dancefloor! No Stranger To Love is a sly, and often funky set that deserves to be mentioned ... LP, Vinyl record album
