Charles Tyler Ensemble
CD (Item 493384) ESP, 1966 — Condition: New Copy
One of the best ESP sessions from the mid 60s – and a startling album of avant tracks from Charles Tyler and his group that included Henry Grimes, Charles Moffet, Joe Friedman, and a young Ronald Jackson. Moffet plays vibes on the session, and combined with Friedman's cello and Grimes' bass, the overall sound is extremely dark and compelling – made even more so by Tyler's edgey work on alto sax. All told, the album's probably the greatest that Tyler ever recorded, and features a soulfulness that didn't always emerge on ESP sessions. Titles include "Lacy's Out East", "Three Spirits", "Black Mysticism", and "Strange Uhuru". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | ||||||
