Dr Dee
CD (Item 612601) Parlophone, 2012 — Condition: New Copy
A fascinating solo album/opera soundtrack from Damon Albarn – creative stuff from an occasional pop front man who, fascinatingly, seems to get more and more interesting with each passing year! We can't think of a more adventurous figure than Damon Albarn, within his generation, who maintains the kind of popularity and influence that he has. This record, which you might mistake for a straight forward solo album if you only looked at the cover photo is part concept album about mathetician, philosopher, astronomer, Elisabeth I advisor and who-know-what-else John Dee – recorded with African musicians (including Tony Allen), a beautiful choir, and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Yes, it's orchestral, but the instrumentation is actually pretty subtle and elegantly folky. Somehow wildly ambitious and pastoral at the same time. Includes "The Golden Dawn", "Apple Carts", "O Spirit, Animate Us", "The Moon Exalted", "Saturn", "Coronation", "A Prayer", "Edward Kelley", "9 Point Star", "Temptation Comes In The Afternoon", "Tree Of Beauty", "The Dancing King". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
