Hermetic Organ
CD (Item 614900) Tzadik, 2012 — Condition: New Copy
An amazing side of the music of John Zorn – one that we've never heard before, but which is presented wonderfully here – in a smoking CD that we hope will become the start of a new jazz tradition from the artist! The set features Zorn in solo performance on a large church organ – initially an odd choice for the famous reedman – yet less so, when as you'll see in the notes, Zorn explains that it was a the organ that initially drew him to music in the first place – opening up his ears to amazing sonic possibilities, a good deal of which he explores in this amazing performance! You can definitely hear echoes of Zorn's interest in Terry Riley in the set – especially at the minimal beginning – but the mood is also much more varied, too – filled with bold sounds that really build as the set moves on – and a use of a church organ that's some of the most striking we've ever heard – on a par with Fred Van Hove's legendary recordings on the instrument for FMP! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
