CD (Item 554251) Bob Downes Music, 1974 — Condition: New Copy

Some of the trippiest music ever recorded from reedman Bob Downes – a really spare, meditative record that mostly features Bob's flutes and assorted percussion – usually used in very gentle ways, to explore the same space as the reeds! Bob plays a wide variety of flutes, plus gongs, bells, cymbals, and even some electronics – along with Wendy Benka, who handles zither, dulcimer, and some other odd percussion instruments too – even some shells, blocks, and a vase! The music's not exactly jazz, but it's also a lot more creative than some of the more meditation-oriented records from the time – very much about sound shapes and textures, of a moody soundscape variety that's years ahead of its time. The CD features 10 tracks from the original, plus 7 more bonus tracks too – a really great mix of modes, and a heck of a lot of music too!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
