An excellent lost bit of funk and comedy from the south side of Chicago! Manuel Arrington was a heavy-handed small-time comic who played many shows at smaller clubs in the city – and we'd often see him opening for acts like Jack McDuff or Charles Earland, doing some racy "party" type material that always kind of fell flat. However, this album wisely brings in some music to Manuel's act – supposedly played by the Joe Tex Band and Scotty & The Rib Tips. The album features one long funk track on side two – "Messing With The Spank", which is a great little funky 45-type number, with heavy funk from the band, and Manuel shouting away in kind of an Alvin Cash mode. The cut's a lot funkier than your average "spank" number – which is why Manuel's probably messing with it! Side one features straight comedy, recorded at the legendary Roberts Motel and other more obscure points – and Manuel delivers routines like "Take The Drawers Out'a Ya Boo-dy", "In The Men's Room", and "Funny How Some Women Make Love", in sort of a Samuel Jackson rough-edged style.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
