An overlooked gem from the 80s soul scene – a set by a group with all the right hooks and grooves of their bigger contemporaries – yet one who also manage to put things across with their own sort of vibe as well! Some of the standout tracks have a bouncy feel that's going right for the charts – and the lead vocals by Tara Davis really hit the perfect blend for these rhythms – short, sharp, and super-catchy – yet also managing to reach a wider range too – in ways that make for deeper soul than you might expect in such a setting! Male group members handle backup, and Tim Moore sings a bit of lead too – and titles include "You're Gonna Be Mine", "Missing You", "It's A Choice", "Hypnotized", "The First Time", "Special One", and "Love Calls". CD features 4 bonus tracks – "It's A Choice (club rmx)", "Hypnotized (club rmx)", "Hypnotized (hyp mix)", and "It's A Choice (dub)".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A wicked set of electro soul from Klique – a trio who've got a lot more to offer than some of their 80s groove contemporaries! The backings are a bit more electric than the funk of their roots, but the overall groove is graced with very strong vocals from the trio of Howard Huntsberry, ... CD

A tighter sound than before for The Bar-Kays – that lean approach to funky grooves that some of their contemporaries were hitting as the 80s moved on – yet still served up here by the full ensemble with a relatively fresh feel overall. Amidst the beats and keyboards, there's still lots ... CD

A great one from the Gap Band – funky gems and sinister groovers – the best of both worlds for the group! Tunes like "Burn Rubber On Me (When You Want To Hurt Me)" and "Humpin" packed 80s dance floors for good reason, and put the band in steady rotation, while ... CD

The Gap Band are definitely Jammin on this sweet little set from the early 80s – hitting that fierce funk mode they do so well, with lots of snapping lines at the bottom of the rhythms! The style is trademark Gap all the way through – a percolated approach to funk that's tight, but ... CD

The first album by Atlantic Starr – a tight set of modern soul tunes with a very different feel than their later work! Part of the credit goes to Bobby Eli – who arranged and produced the set, giving it a feel that's almost late Philly – tight, sophisticated, and right on the ... CD

RCA/PTG (Netherlands), 1982. New Copy
Great later work from Pleasure – a group who are probably best-known for their classic 70s albums on Fantasy Records, but one who kept the groove riding high in some early 80s years at RCA! This set's a shimmering jewel – a great mix of funky rhythms and mellower moments, all wrapped ... CD

Sublime 60s soul singles – upbeat, grooving, and brought together in support of legendary UK club The Catacombs – an early hotbed for the Northern Soul scene! The package is heavy on notes and images from the club – but even if you've never set foot in the UK, or on a dancefloor, ... CD

A very cool set! This one comes in a hardcover book-like package – and not only includes the main record, but two full other records as well! Across 110th Street is one of the best blacksploitation soundtracks of the early 70's – not only for the great title cut by Bobby Womack, " ... CD
