The title's certainly right on this one – because Atlantic Starr serve up a really brilliant blend of electro funk and mainstream soul – balanced with that near-perfect sound that made them one of the best groups of their generation! Despite the size of the combo, the sound is relatively lean – a very focused balance of basslines, keyboards, and some tightly snapping 80s groove rhythms – served up with vocals that warmly cascade over the tops of the tunes, but usually take a second seat to the extremely compelling instrumentation. The sound is polished, but never too slick – and the group are a great example of how well soul from this time could sound when done just the right way! Titles include "Love Me Down", "Sexy Dancer", "Circles", "Love Moves", "Your Love Finally Ran Out", and "You're The One". (Cover has some wear, light staining along the bottom, and some pen on the back.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A groovy little classic from Atlantic Starr – and a great example of the group's wonderfully catchy way of hitting a groove! We're Movin Up
Warner, 1989. Very Good+
The last in a long run of 80s hits from Atlantic Starr – a group who were already moving up the soul charts before the release of the album! Quincy just never stopped putting out classic soulful albums! This one, from the early 80s, features a smooth jazzy blend of tracks, with a strong nod to the kinds of souped-up studio sounds that were being used by groups like The Crusaders, but also with a lot of the kind of soulfulness that made ... Rockie Robbins
A&M, 1979. Very Good
A really nice album of smooth soul tracks – the first album by singer Rockie Robbins, and a masterful effort from the Chicago soul production team of Richard Evans and Johnnie Pate! Massively solid boogie work from Jeffrey Osborne and LTD – still grooving beautifully at the end of the 70s, and working here with top-shelf production from Bobby Martin! Brer Soul
A&M, 1968. Very Good- Gatefold
Amazing stuff from Melvin Van Peebles! Brer Soul is a mad mix of funky soul insanity and straight up wisdom – a mix of moods that also seems to inform the best of his films, now that we think about it – and it's put together with enough wild clashes of culture to shake anyone up.
