I Need Altitude – Rare & Unreleased New Orleans Jazz & Funk 1968-1978
LP (Item 46067) Night Train International/Tuff City, 1970s — Condition: New Copy
Sweet 70s funk from drummer James Black! The tunes were recorded in New Orleans, but have a bass-heavy groove that sounds a lot more like New York funk of the early 70s – tightly grooving with lots of rhythmic interplay, and a nice dose of spacey soul! About half the cuts have vocals – either by Sister Mary, Mary Jane Hooper, Eddie Bo, or Black himself – done in a odd style that works well with the messed-up groove of the tracks. There's a few nice drumbreaks on the set, and titles include "That Certain Someone", "Psychedelphia", "There's A Storm In The Gulf", "Mr Gris Gris Man", "I Need Altitude", "Tune #6", and an instrumental version of "Hook & Sling"! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
