Grits
LP (Item 477312) Freestyle (UK), 2008 -- Condition: New Copy
Greasy grooves from The Grits -- a sackful of funk that more than lives up to its raw image on the cover! The group work in a very classic style here -- tight quartet jamming with a heavy instrumental groove -- clearly steeped in the best sounds of the funky 45 underground of the 60s and 70s, but also working with a few touches of their own as well! One of these is their surprising use of Moog -- an instrument that appears on a few key tracks, turned up so that it's all messy and distorted next to the funky bass and drums. Other great elements include mellotron, Hammond, and rattletrap percussion -- the last of which is used in ways that break the group out of a straight Meters groove. Titles include versions of "Jan Jan" and "Tramp" -- plus "Chickin (part 1)", "Hamhock", "Ug Ug Aah", "No Man's Land", and "Funky Soul Brother". © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | |||||
