Dennis Coffey (plus download)
LP (Item 558239) Strut (UK), 2011 — Condition: New Copy
The return of Detroit funk and soul guitar legend Dennis Coffey – and it's not only a welcome one, it's great – a record that finds Dennis at an exuberant, funky high point! On this self-titled set, he's joined by adventurous creative spirits who he's inspired over the years, including Kings Go Forth, Fanny Franklin of Orgone, Mayor Hawthorne, Paolo Nutini and members of The Detroit Cobras, The Bellrays and The Dirtbombs. It's not only a testament to Coffey's genius that such a diverse roster of guests are happy to pitch in here, it's a statement to his far reaching style that it all works so well. From his roots with Motown house band The Funk Brothers to his wild solo work and breakbeat funk staples, he's a timeless master of soul, funk, rock and the confluence of all the above. His influence is as apparant as ever well into a new millenium, so it's a real treat to have him back and in such vital form. Includes the knockout instros "7th Galaxy", "Plutonius", "Knockabout", "Space Traveller" "Miss Millie" with Kings Go Forth and "Don't Knock My Love (Pt 2)" – plus Don't Knock My Love" feat Fanny Franklin, "All Your Goodies Are Gone" feat Mayer Hawthorne, "Only Good For Conversation" feat Paolo Nutini, "I Bet You" with Mick Collins of The Dirtbombs and Rachel Magy of Detroit Cobras and more.
