Rare Tennessee soul from Levert Allison – the lesser-known brother of Gene Allison, and clearly the funkier member of the family too! The cuts here are mostly a discovery to our ears, and they're mighty nice throughout – southern soul drenched in influences from R&B, especially on the vocals – but served up with a tighter 60s punch on the rhythms, especially the drums, which are nice and funky on just about every track! The music is totally great – a blend of funk and soul that you'd never expect from the Nashville scene – and a collection like this is certain to get Levert the attention he really deserves.
