Earthy work from Don Crawford – a very unique artist who works in a mix of soul and folk modes – a bit like Terry Callier at points, but with some more unusual touches as well! This album's got a pretty full set of arrangements, which makes for more of a Callier-like quality than some of Don's other records – but even so, the music's more like the straighter 60s folk of Callier than some of the soaring soul sounds of his Cadet years in the early 70s. Crawford's got a deeply soulful voice that rings out beautifully in this setting – and makes the whole sound of the album come through beautifully. Titles include "Fire Island Saturday", "Small Brown Baby", "Silent Scream", "Benediction", and "I Too Wanted Peace". (Cover has a cutout notch.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Gordy, 1973. Very Good-
One of the last totally righteous albums by the Temptations – recorded at the end of their progressive run at Motown, and done with some really hard-hitting tunes and production from Norman Whitfield! Philadelphia International, 1976. Very Good+ Gatefold
An interesting move for Don Covay – a singer who started out as a fairly straightforward soul performer, then got a bit bluesier in the early 70s, then shifted back to a more pop-oriented groove. This one's got Don working with arrangements by Bobby Martin and Dexter Wansel that still keep ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cheryl Lynn
Columbia, 1978. Very Good
Massive work from the great Cheryl Lynn – and a key bridge between late 70s disco and the newer grooves of the 80s club scene! The album's a mix of midtempo groovers with a few mellower tracks – and it's got a tight, slightly jazzy sound that was very fresh at the time, and which still ... LP, Vinyl record album
