Some of jazz's most sensitive artists get together in a lyrical set of light-handed ditties. Shearing's piano is a surprisingly nice complement to the vibes/bass/guitar sound of The Montgomery Brothers – and the group is augmented by some nice Latin percussion. Tracks are short, and titles include "Double Deal", "Mambo In Chimes", "Lois Ann", "And Then I Wrote", and "No Hard Feelings". (OJC pressing, with obi.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Jazzland, 1962. Very Good
An excellent early Nat Adderley record that has the funky trumpet player groovin' in the company of a number of bright young players from New Orleans, including Nat Perrilliat on tenor, Ellis Marsalis (yes, that one) on piano, and James Black on drums. Jazzland, Late 50s. Very Good
A strange little album that combines tracks from 2 different earlier Riverside LPs – Serenade To A Bus Set by Clark Terry, and another session that features Kenny Dorham and Ernie Henry, possibly issued under Henry's name as Seven Standards & A Blues. A lost bossa jazz classic from Dizzy Gillespie – recorded at a time when Lalo Schifrin was working in his combo! The record's got a cool, laidback kind of groove – one that's miles away from Gillespie's earlier bop work, and which shows him opening up his rhythmic conception strongly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Classic funkiness with David Axelrod producing, and lots of funky electric piano by Joe Zawinul. Recorded live, when the group was at their best, and with 2 LPs worth of great originals – many by Zawinul. Titles include "Alto Sex", "Lonesome Stranger", "Wild-Cat ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great little LP – even if it is a discographer's nightmare! The record was most likely recorded originally under Machito's name, and only featured Mann as a soloist – but it's not the album Kenya, so we're not sure which one it is, although it does look like a repackaging job ...
