The bass gets plenty of stroke on this mid 80s set – a record that hangs somewhere between 80s groove and Prince-era funk – but with a bit of quiet storm feel at times too! The tunes are pretty lean, not nearly as excessive as they could be – and often, a key instrumental element really helps set the scene from the start – making for a simple, but effective hook into a song. Overall, Stroke's got a sound that's a lot classier than their name – definitely one of those 80s groups that should have risen a lot higher than some of the bigger chart acts of the era. Titles include "All Night", "Take Me Back", "Tell Me", "Uptown", "Just Let Me Luv You", and "Stroke". (Cover has light wear & a some pen.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Closer Than Close
Mirage/Omni, 1986. Sealed
Quite a different sound than Jean's Philly International recordings – although certainly a logical extension – and it's a sweeter than sweet set from the mid 80s that in turns both celebrates and transcends the production style of the era! Overall, Closer Than Close is a smooth batch ... LP, Vinyl record album

Although the Main Ingredient were best known for their early 70's singles, this album from '74 is a wonderfully complex batch of tunes that shows that the group were taking a cue from some of their hipper contemporaries, and pushing past a stock hit formula. Bert DeCoteaux was still arranging, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

ABC, 1965. Very Good
Classic 60s Impressions material, with the legendary lineup firmly in place, and the great Johnny Pate handling all arrangements. This is one of the group's albums that mixes Curtis Mayfield cuts,"Lonely Man", "Just One Kiss From You", "Falling In Love With You" with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1971. Very Good Gatefold
The last album recorded by Charles Wright with the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band – and a set that's even more stretched out and trippy than their other albums! Gone are the tight short cuts of earlier days, and in their place are longer messed-up funky numbers that have more of a jamming ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great mid period sleeper from Barry White – and an album that's not as hit-heavy as his other work from the time, but still equally nice! The album's got a mellower groove than some of Barry's albums of the time – a laidback approach that's going more for an overall sound, and which ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wonderful work from Dionne Warwick's lesser-known sister – a hell of a great singer, and one who packs even more punch than her famous sibling! The gem of a set has all the poise and class of Dionne, but comes across with a lot more soul as well – a great mix that's very much in the ... LP, Vinyl record album
