Our only complaint about this set is that Prestige only saw fit to make it 2 LPs long, and as most of all of you know just as well as we do, the Prestige catalog runs deep with funky hornsmen! Most of these cats and the tracks they did choose to include need little or no introduction form us, so we'll just let the selection do all the talking: Gene Ammons "Hittin' The Jug" & "Chicago Breakdown", Sonny Stitt with Jack McDuff "Nother Fu'ther", Rusty Bryant "Red Eye Special" & "Soul Liberation", Willis Jackson "This'll Get To Ya" & "Tu'gether", Houston Person "Chains Of Love" & "Goodness", Johnny Griffin "Wade In The Water" and Stanley Turrentine "Walkin'". (Cover has ring & edge wear and some seam splitting.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Super Soul
Prestige, 1967. Near Mint-
A great little album – one that features Groove playing in front of larger arrangements from Chess Records soul maestro Richard Evans – in a style that has the swinging power of some of Evan's best soul and jazz work at the Chicago label, and which makes for a slightly different ... Shout It Out
Prestige, 1977. Very Good
A pivotal record for Patrice Rushen – a set that has her really tightening things up from her previous Prestige albums – heading much more towards the focused soul-drenched grooves of her Elektra Records years! The set's a stunner – still very much with the hip, west coast funky ... LP, Vinyl record album

Prestige, 1967. Very Good
A weird one for Prestige, but a groovy one too. Billy Hawks sings and plays organ, with a groove that's in between jazz, blues, and deep soul. He's fronting a trio that includes a young Ivan "Boogaloo Joe" Jones on guitar, and the group plays a few instrumentals with some excellent ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jaws In Orbit
Prestige, 1959. Near Mint-
Eddie Lockjaw Davis swings way out here – working in that cool cooking mode from the 50s, with organist Shirley Scott a very important partner on the date! The group's got a larger sound than usual – thanks to the addition of trombonist Steve Pullman – a player we don't know much ... LP, Vinyl record album

Quarteto Enzo Gallo
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good+
A cool little album, issued at a time when Capitol was building up it's worldwide networks, and releasing work by overseas artists in the US. This set features tunes by the Italian Enzo Gallo Quartet – a cool little group led by guitarist Gallo, who play a mixture of jazz and pop tunes, kind ... LP, Vinyl record album

Live In Chateauneuf Du Pape Vol 2
Black & Blue (France), 1976. Very Good+
A smoking live set with a very old school sound – and a quartet that features Wild Bill Davis on organ, Eddie Lockjaw Davis on tenor, Billy Butler on guitar, and Oliver Jackson on drums! LP, Vinyl record album
