Jazz At The Philharmonic In Europe (2LP)

Add Item to Want List
LP (Item 454563) Verve, Early 60s — Condition: Used

2 nice live sets – put together by Norm Granz, as a tour of the JATP all stars in Europe. Originally issued separately, but pretty much under the same title, the first LP brings together the hottest jazz stars of the day, and on this volume it includes Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderley, JJ Johnson, Coleman Hawkins and Roy Eldridge. There's a great jamming take on "Bernie's Tune" and a sidelong riffing version of "All The Things You Are", plus "Swedish Jam". The second album was issued ostensibly as a Dizzy Gillespie performance, but with like the first features some very strong guest stars! The core of the group is Diz's great one from the early 60s – with Lalo Schifrin on piano and Leo Wright on alto and flute, and they're joined by Stan Getz, JJ Johnson, and Candido for this tasty set of three long tracks: "Kush", "The Mooch" and "Wheatleigh Hall". (MGM pressing. Cover has ring & edge wear, seam splitting, and masking tape along the top seam. Text on back cover is underlined in pen.)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
