Two rare early gems from UK arranger John Cameron – both of which show some really unique sides of his talents! Cover lover is one of the weirdest records we've ever heard from the UK scene of the 60s – and a set that actually features John Cameron singing a bit – adopting this swinging London sort of spirit that's a mix of jazz and soul – not unlike Georgie Fame at the time, but maybe a bit rough around the edges! The tunes are plenty playful – almost all originals, with some pretty witty lyrics – backed by a small combo that includes Ronnie Ross on baritone sax and Art Ellefson on additional reeds. Cuts include "Walk Small", "The Jester", "Cover Lover", "Waiting For Herbert", "Set Em Up Joe", and "You Owe Me". Warm & Gentle is much more in Cameron's sound library mode – especially the mellower side of things! The style is pretty easy-going, but not without some delights – gentle instrumentals, but often with a nice touch of jazz – especially on some sweet flute lines, which almost recall use of the instrument in Cameron's mellower charts for Donovan.
