Some of the best work that Stan Getz ever recorded – a fantastic collaboration with French soundtrack maestro Michel Legrand! The album features larger orchestrations by Legrand, often touched with voices – swirling, swaying, and swinging in a style that's as hip, modern, and fresh as some of the greatest soundtracks Legrand wrote in the 60s. The setting lets Stan really open up – blowing freely in his best post-Coltrane mode, but with a tightness that's missing from other records – and a soulful approach to the tunes that really leaves us breathless! Tremendous stuff – a record that's unlike anything else we can describe, and one we've treasured for years! We love this one to death, and never tire of hearing it! Titles include "Soul Dance", "Flight", "Redemption", and "Bonjour Tristesse". (Cover has a cut corner.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Columbia, 1969. Very Good+ 2 LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power! The record itself is a key cap to Miles Davis' already-groundbreaking years of the 60s – a bold step forward, not just for his nascent electric sound, but also for jazz in general – and the benchmark ... House Of David
Atlantic, 1967. Very Good+
One of David Newman's grooviest albums of the 60s – a stripped-down set that features a quartet with Hammond and guitar – all in a vibe that's a bit more relaxed than some of Newman's other sessions for Atlantic! There's a gritty edge to the record – with organ by the obscure ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Jazz, 1971. Near Mint-
One of the few albums ever cut by reedman Rudolph Johnson – a hell of a saxophonist, and one with a great ability to combine the spiritual with the searing – a bit like Joe Farrell at his CTI best, but not as freewheeling – nicely focused, and a little bit funky in all the right ...
