A legendary album! This previously unreleased album by Os Mutantes was supposed to be their breakthrough album to an English speaking market – but for years it's only been talked about in hushed whispers, and has only been heard by a lucky few! The record was recorded in Paris in 1970 – and it's ALL IN ENGLISH! (Not that we're biased against Portuguese, mind you – but since we're English speakers, it's kind of a nice thing to have a record that we can understand!) The record features a number of tunes from the Mutantes first two albums – redone here with translated lyrics, and in a compressed pop style that's a bit smoother than the original albums, but still very nice! In fact, the record's a sophisticated pop statement that would have stood well in the company of many of the best of 1970s rock elite – had the boneheads at Philips actually decided to release the record! No use crying over spilled milk, though – because the album's out now, and it's filled with loads of nice tracks like "Panis Et Circensis", "Batmacumba", "Tecnicolor", "El Justiciero", "I'm Sorry Baby", "Saravah", and a sublime reading of "Baby", a track that was virtually the manifesto for Tropicalia!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Mutantes Ao Vivo
Som Livre (Brazil), 1976. New Copy (reissue)
A rare live album recorded by the Mutantes during the years after Rita Lee and Arnaldo Baptista left the group, and when the only surviving original member Sergio Dias turned the group into a very competent progressive rock outfit. The sound is very different than their early albums, but it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Softly
Capitol, 1965. New Copy (reissue)
A lost bossa classic from Wanda De Sah – aka Wanda Sa, the wife of Edu Lobo, and a singer who worked with Sergio Mendes in his pre-Brasil 66 days! The album's got a wonderfully laidback feel – languid, yet jazzy, with the feel of some of Astrud Gilberto's best work on Verve, yet with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, 1965. New Copy (reissue)
That's Brasil 65, not Brasil 66 – a distinction that marks a key early stage for the great Sergio Mendes – heard here on one of his first albums to mix together bossa jazz and vocals! The approach here is a bit more like vintage bossa dates from Brazil – or a bit like some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Odeon/Light In The Attic, 1970. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
Some of the most brilliantly baroque work ever recorded by Marcos Valle – an obscure 1970 album that collects together tunes from a few of his odd soundtrack experiments of the late 60s, plus a few others that are in a very similar vein! Marcos is really going over the top here – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Luaka Bop, 1992. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
A great return for the legendary Tom Ze – an artist who'd been brought back to prominence via the efforts of a Luaka Bop compilation – then given this great chance to record for the label on his own! The set's a great return to form for Ze – who sprung from this moment into a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Luaka Bop, 1970s. New Copy 2LP
Insanely great sounds from the legendary Tim Maia – easily the most soulful singer in 70s Brazil, and an artist with a heck of a strong ear for funk, too! The music here is an incredible hybrid of American soul and Brazilian elements – especially since some lyrics are in English – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Edip Akbayram
Pharaway Sounds (Spain), 1974. New Copy
A seminal debut set from Edip Akbanyram – a 70s Turkish singer whose music is every bit as compelling as arabesk rock by Baris Manco or Erkin Koray! Like both of those artists, Edip mixes older Anatolian roots with a freakier, fuzzier style from the psych generation – mixing electric ... LP, Vinyl record album
