A great little album by The Impressions – possibly their best of the 70s! The record's got a very solid harmony soul approach, and Lowrell Simon wrote and produced a number of tracks with Rich Tufo – giving the album the same sweet sexy sound that he brought to his best solo records, and his late work with The Lost Generation! The best example of this is the fantastic soul cut "We Go Back A Ways", a sweet mellow groover in the Leroy Hutson vein, and one of their standout cuts in the post-Curtis days. Ed Townsend worked on a number of other cuts, too, and he brings a real tightness to the songwriting – especially on the cuts "Guess What I Got", "Try Me (One More Time)", and "I'm A Changed Man". Let's Do It Again
Curtom, 1975. Near Mint-
Probably the best record the Staple Singers ever cut during the 70s – as it makes a genius move by taking their rich vocal style and laying it over some excellent tracks written by Curtis Mayfield! The record's quite different than their usual Stax numbers, and has a Curtom groove that's hip ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elektra, 1981. Very Good+

Buddah, 1976. Very Good
The very first album from Michael Henderson – but a set that already finds him very much at the top of his game – thanks to previous work with Miles Davis and Norman Connors! Both artists gave Henderson a chance to do different things with his music, and by the time of this record, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Euphrates River
RCA, 1974. Very Good Gatefold
Although the Main Ingredient were best known for their early 70's singles, this album from '74 is a wonderfully complex batch of tunes that shows that the group were taking a cue from some of their hipper contemporaries, and pushing past a stock hit formula. Bert DeCoteaux was still arranging, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
