Devil & The Deep Blue Sea (Japanese paper sleeve edition)
CD (Item 596515) SSJ (Japan), Late 60s/Early 70s — Condition: New Copy
Rare material from vocalist Helen Forrest – recorded decades after her initial fame in the 40s, but plenty darn swinging nonetheless! The tracks are from obscure sessions Helen recorded for Reader's Digest – tracks that were only ever made available to subscribers to the magazine, and which are appearing here for the first time ever in one commercial collection. As you'd guess from the dates, the sound here is different than that of Forrest in the swing era – a much more mature approach to jazz vocals, and one that shows a strong influences from all the changes in the genre that took place during the 60s. A later version of the Harry James orchestra backs Helen on some of the tracks, and some others feature accompaniment from The Serenaders – who do a great job of bringing in a modern vibe to the tracks. Titles include "As Long As He Needs Me", "I'm Beginning To See The Light", "It Must Be Him", "More", "My Foolish Heart", and "Speak Low". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
