CD (Item 586525) Mercury/PTG (Netherlands), 1978 — Condition: New Copy

The great lost late 70s funk album from Phyrework – with a smooth and soulful vibe flowing underneath, flirting with a more fusiony sound without sacrificing the funky momentum one bit! The record came out on Mercury in '78, and it has enough of soulful polish to have gotten it over in a really big way – with production by Con-Funk-Shun guitarist Michael Cooper. For reasons we can't fathom, the album didn't make much of an impact, and a second album never materialized. That's a shame, but at least they came in and went out at a high point creatively! The seven piece group balances driving funk with easygoing group soul incredibly well – with party rocking group vocals and mean bass lines on the funkier tracks, some sweet string arrangements in spots, insistent rhythms and tight percussion, horns, flute and synth. Every member contributes vocals, too. Titles include "Put Your Hands Up", "Do You Feel The Same", "Comin for Your Love", Fly Away", "Make It Last", "Mystic Mariner", Dance With Me" and the great centerpiece "My Funk".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
