A pair of promising 12-inch releases leading up to this debut sure intrigued us about what Stones Throw's Stepkids might be up to – and the self-titled release lives up and then some! The Stepkids album an unpredictable mix of tripped out psych funk, cheeky humor, and hazy grooves! The group is a trio, and each member sings, distinctly and in harmony – weird bits of folk, soul, funk and psych that really do kind of exist in their own space – though infused with myriad pinpointable influences, though so far-flung, it's a wonder that the record works so very well!
