CD (Item 614413) Sony, 1950s/1960s — Condition: New Copy

A decade's worth of genius – and one of the best mainstream modern jazz moments of the postwar years! Dave Brubeck was already making big waves on the San Francisco scene in the early part of the 50s – but when he hit Columbia Records, his music really started to take off – as the label gave him great freedom to try out a host of new ideas – unusual settings, special thematic projects, and his famous exploration of unusual time signatures – which really helped propel him to a much wider audience at the time! Yet despite that fame, none of the work here is commercial or crossover jazz at all – and if anything, taken as a whole, the package really reminds us that Brubeck never stopped inventing – at least at this point in his career – trying out new sounds, and new ways of approach his sound – almost always in the company of the wonderful Paul Desmond on alto sax, as well as Joe Morello on drums and Gene Wright on bass. A number of these albums have never been issued by Columbia before on CD – and they're all packaged in cool LP-styled sleeves, with a bonus booklet of session details not on the original record jackets. Albums include Brubeck Time, Jazz Impressions of The USA, Jazz Impressions Of Eurasia, Dave Digs Disney, Gone With The Wind, Time Out, Time Further Out, Bossa Nova USA, Jazz Impressions Of Japan, Jazz Impressions Of New York, My Favorite Things, Time In, Southern Scene, Bernstein Plays Brubeck, Countdown Time In Outer Space, Brandenburg Gate Revisited, Time Changes, Angel Eyes, and Anything Goes.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
