A fantastic album, and one of Jimmy's hardest to find! The set is quite different than most of Jimmy's other work – and it features short, hard, funky tracks that feel more like obscure 7" singles than any of Jimmy's straighter soul jazz work. It almost sounds like The JBs are backing him – as the drums are tight, bass is great, and the overall groove is fantastic! The record's a little like Jimmy's Electric Funk album, but harder, with more breaks and basslines – and a non-stop groove that's a pure delight for any fan of deep funk! Great stuff, with "Ain't It Funky Now", "The Now Thing", "Fat Cakes", "New Volume", and "Bug Out".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

For The Good Times
Prestige, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
One of Rusty Bryant's last albums for Prestige – recorded in that more-electric mode that graced the label's albums of the year 1973 – but in a style that's still pretty darn nice! The group's still a small combo – with Rusy on tenor and alto, plus with Hank Jones on electric ... LP, Vinyl record album

Journey
Chiaroscuro, 1977. New Copy (reissue)
A landmark New York session from Dollar Brand – recorded in the late 70s, with a larger group than usual! Brand spins out some really magical African-tinged jazz grooves – stretching forth in his usual modal mode, with lots of rhythmic lines – but in a way that's also augmented ... LP, Vinyl record album

Salome Bey Sings Songs From Dude
Kilmarnock, 1973. New Copy
A set of tracks from Galt MacDermot's musical Dude – co-written with Hair lyricist Jerome Ragni, and featuring vocals by Salome Bey (of Andy & The Bey Sisters fame!) Galt did the music, and the group includes him, Bernard Purdie, Cornell Dupree, and has backup vocals by Cissy Houston and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jazztime, 1961. New Copy (reissue)
The only full album ever issued by tenor player Rocky Boyd – but a set so great, it's definitely made a name for him over the years! Boyd's got a wonderful tone on the set – sharp and soulful, with an approach to the tenor that almost reminds us of early 60s Jackie McLean – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tommy Turrentine
Time, 1959. New Copy (reissue)
One of the most fantastic hardbop albums of all time! Tommy Turrentine was the less-famous trumpet-playing brother of Stanley Turrentine – but he was a hell of a player in his early days, and he cut some amazing records with his brother during the younger years of his career. Capitol, Late 60s. New Copy (reissue)
Sweet and funky organ work from the great Henry Cain – a little known player who recorded on some excellent sides for Capitol in the 60s, including some of the albums by Howard Roberts! This set is Cain's one full album for the label – and it's a tight and jumpy set of instrumentals, ... LP, Vinyl record album

RTV/Sonor (Italy), 1970. New Copy (reissue)
An even headier set than the famous Overground record by Sandro Brugnolini – a sound library recording like that one, but done in a much more psychedelic style overall! A lost bit of funky vibes and Fender Rhodes – one of those few records that's as sublime as it is rare – like work by Billy Wooten or Lyman Woodard! Faith For My Mind
Solar/Superfly (France), 1983. New Copy (reissue)
A beautiful, beautiful little record – as righteous and soulful as some of the best spiritual jazz classics of the 70s – and arguably even rarer, as it was only issued on a tiny label from Atlanta! Shapes Of Rhythm
Kilmarnock, Late 60s. New Copy (reissue)
Nice nice reissue of one of the greatest records to come out of Galt MacDermot's legendary Kilmarnock label! The best funky album you could ever find by Galt MacDermot!
