Rhythm Without Blues – The Dichotomy Of A Music Genre (hardcover)

Book (Item 513786) Strategic Book Publishing, 2009 — Condition: New Copy

A detailed look at the soul side of the music business – put together by Dr Syleecia Thompson, a daughter of Syl Johnson! The book has a slightly unusual format, but one that makes it pretty compelling – as most of the contents feature Thompson interviewing a variety of different figures in the business – managers, artists, executives, and other individuals – most of whom are oddly presented here with "code names" – so that you can't tell their real identity! Despite that factor – or maybe because of it – the interviews seem pretty genuine, and pretty candid – and even though Syleecia comes to most people with the same set of questions, the answers are somewhat diverse – and are then capped by Thompson in the final chapter, which directly presents her polemic. 181 pages, hardcover.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
