A live set that features Ahmad on acoustic and electric piano, and which contains two long tracks – "Bogota" and "Extensions". The groove is fairly lively, with lots of long flowing solos from Ahmad, and nary a dull moment from Jamil Sulieman on bass and Frank Gant on drums. Although the record isn't as moody as some of his other ones from the time, it's a strong straight jazz session, with a good spacey groove. (Rainbow label pressing. Top corners of the cover each have a sticker.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Expression
Impulse, 1967. Good Gatefold
The first Impulse album issued after the early death of John Coltrane – and one of his last sessions for the label as well! The record's got a somber, introspective quality that almost hints at the darkness to come – a new way of reaching the spiritual planes that Coltrane was striving ... LP, Vinyl record album

ABC/Impulse, 1976. Very Good+
A lost gem from Keith's "with horns" period – a quintet session from the mid 70s, recorded with a group that features Dewey Redman on tenor, plus Charlie Haden on bass, Paul Motian on drums and percussion, and Guilherme Franco on additional percussion. Great Scott!! (Impulse)
Impulse, 1964. Very Good Gatefold
Swinging organ tracks from Shirley, with large band backing by Oliver Nelson, very much in the mode of Jimmy Smith's albums with Nelson on Verve! Includes a nice reading of the theme from "Shot In The Dark", plus "Hoe Down", "Shadows Of Paris", and "Great ... LP, Vinyl record album

Impulse, 1966. Sealed Gatefold
John Coltrane returns to the Village Vanguard – but his sound here is a lot more far-reaching than a few years before! The album's a great counterpart to the first Vanguard session – as it takes all of the bold, soaring energy of that date, and balances it with the newly introspective ... LP, Vinyl record album

Personal Appearance
Verve, 1957. Good+
Beautiful late 50s work from Stitt – filled with subtle complex solos, and a rich confident tone that was missing from earlier records! As with some of his other Verve sessions from the time, the track list is mostly standards – but unlike some Verve sessions, Stitt never gets lost in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polarization
ECM, 1977. Near Mint-
Although trombonist Julian Priester had been playing for years on some of the hippest jazz sides ever recording, this stint of late 70s ECM recordings were some of his rare few as a leader, apart from some very early sides for the Jazzland/Riverside label. The groove here is stretched out, ... LP, Vinyl record album

London Underground
Atlantic, 1974. Near Mint-
Herbie Mann rides his Memphis Underground approach over to London – where he grooves nicely in a similar jazz funk take on that scene's biggest tunes of the time!
