Sound Of Wonder -- The First Wave Of Plugged-In Pop At The Pakistani Picture HouseVarious
CD (Item 489335) Finders Keepers (UK), 1970s -- Condition: New Copy
Amazing grooves from the Lollywood scene of the 70s -- the Pakistani equivalent of the films coming out of India's Bollywood at the time! The grooves here are often quite different than what you might hear from Bollywood -- still touched with an Eastern, exotic sensibility (at least to our Western ears) -- but often presented with rhythmic elements that change things up nicely, making the best numbers come across like frenetic funk -- often intercut with cool keyboards and a bit of hip electronics! The sound of these cuts is amazingly fresh -- and 60s-styled electric guitar lines often come into play with 70s grooves and moogy bits -- making for music that's as pan-historical as it is territorial. Once again, Finders Keepers have done a wonderful job with the package -- pulling these gems out of some distant vault, polishing them up beautifully, and presenting the whole thing with enough notes to help us better understand this hardly-tapped scene. The whole thing's amazing -- surely one of our favorite musical discoveries in recent years -- and titles include "Good News For You" and "Main Hoon Play Boy" by M Ashraf, "I Am Very Sorry" and "Yeh Raat Jane Keya Keya" by Kamal Ahmed, "Meri Marzi Main Gaoon Gi" by Nisar Bazmi, "Na Main Chini Na Japani" and "Kad Ley Way" by Tafo, "Pyar Ka Koee Shola" by M Ashraf, and "Society Girl" by Nazir Ali. © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | ||||||
